TOTAL CONTRAST

TOTAL CONTRAST

Since the beginning of this year, I have been really fortunate to live my life to its fullest. There wasn't any minute wasted in my day, and I can't be grateful enough for so many wonderful things that happened.

Starting a new career in the travel industry is one of them. By far, it's a significant change in my life, and I've enjoyed every bit of it. I call hotels as my second home almost every month. After a Lunar New Year trip to Vietnam, I went to Bali for a holiday, headed to San Francisco for work, came back to Singapore, and then off to Ho Chi Minh, Taiwan, and Indonesia. I'm finally back to Singapore for two weeks before my next trip. Until then, I know I have a lot of things to catch up with you. The two-month worth of blog posts sounds scary, but if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you should know that I made an effort to update as often as I could. However, nothing compares to a blog post. I know.

Let's start our long overdue conversation with an outfit that I shot before I left for Bali. This Endless Rose button front dress was one of my February most favorite picks on Revolve Clothing. I love how the structure shoulders and button front bottom give a sharp military-inspired look while the plunging neckline adds so much femininity to the whole outfit. If you ask me what color goes best with White, I would recommend nothing but black. This dress isn't appropriate for work unless you wear a camisole underneath. But if you want to make a bold statement as I did, a black lace bra is all you need.

I have not been leaving my blog non-updated for more than one month since 2012 and when this happens, I'll usually have some great surprises to make up for it. You'll find them at the end of this blog post.

LUNAR NEW YEAR IN VIETNAM

LUNAR NEW YEAR IN VIETNAM

I've always been asked "How's Lunar New Year in Vietnam?" whenever I told someone that I'm going back there for Chinese New Year celebration. Many people, including my Singaporean friends, do not know that we (the Vietnamese) celebrate our Chinese New Years as crazily as the people in China. As my answer "It's great!" didn't seem to please their curiosity, I thought of documenting and sharing with everyone here.

Back to the question "How's Lunar New Year in Vietnam", I can now add another word "colorful" to my answer and refer it to the picture above. It truly is the most beautiful and colorful time of the year.

Every destination starts from an airport. Here I was, walking to the gate while looking so winter-ready for my only winter trip of the year.

Three hours later, a close-up view of Home and the taste of home-cooked food, straight from my Mom' kitchen.

Meals are the most important part of the family's daily activities. Like many other families in Vietnam, we love family bonding time over a meal. We try to have lunch and dinner at home together. This was our sumptuous gathering dinner before New Year. Trust me, on a regular day, we don't cook this much. It doesn't matter what we eat, it's the time that we can sit down and enjoy a meal together that matters.

Next day, if Dad doesn't ask me out for breakfast, my good friends usually do. We always hang out at a chic coffee spot in town, have a cup of coffee after filling our stomach with a big bowl of Pho (beef noodle). A simple activity like that takes a big space in my heart. I miss it the most when somebody asks me about Vietnam.

Never leave Vietnam without trying a bowl of Pho. You can choose to eat Beef noodle (Pho bo) or Chicken noodle (Pho ga). They taste wonderful!

My days in Vietnam are pretty laid-back. It's either I would stay at home and play with my nephew or I would go out shopping for New Year with my mom and dad. A beautiful sunset on the day I went out with my Mom.

The city hasn't changed so much since I left in 2005.

Fresh flowers at every corner of the street.

Fresh peach blossoms at every house. The blossom tree is an iconic symbol of Lunar New Year in Vietnam. It's said to bring wealth and happiness. To my family, the blossom tree is not only a must-have item for New Year, but also reminds us of our old and sad story.

On New Year days, we'll bring Miu to the park, take family photos, and visit our relatives and friend's houses. The routine stays the same every year, but we never get bored of it.

I guess it doesn't matter where I am or what I do, it's who I am with and I know I'm happiest whenever I am with my family.

Besides lotuses, blossom flowers, and bamboos, star fruits which are seen in many villages in Vietnam, also have a special meaning to us. It's a part of the lesson that we first learn in the school. It's a playground of many kids in the countryside. It reminds us of home and our childhood memory. I can't think of anything more appropriate to end this blog post than the photo of the real starfruit tree that I captured at my grandma's house. Its image always stays in my heart.

I'd like to welcome you home with me through a short video clip that I filmed during my trip. Hope you like it.

Thank you so much for reading and watching!

SWEET LOVE

SWEET LOVE

Crystal Phuong- Revolve Clothing x Tularosa lace dress- Sweet Love

I can't remember when was the last time I stepped out of the house in all pink outfit. Perhaps, it was this time when I attended the Vietnam Fashion Week last year? I used to love pink so much that I even decorated my whole room in pink. It was 8 years ago. 8 YEARS, I recounted twice. It's scary to think how time can change things.

As I get older, my obsession for pink has faded but not completely gone. Although I no longer go crazy over a pink camera or a pink laptop, it doesn't mean that I stop loving this romantic color. Especially when it's a pink dress come from Revolve Clothing.

This Tularosa pink lace dress is a pleasant surprise from Revolve indeed. The delicate lace material in sweet color can put any girl in the mood of Love instantly. I have always been the woman of work, the woman always on the go with hundred of things inside my head. Only when I put this dress on me last week, I felt like a girl again. Thank you so much REVOLVE Clothing for sending some sweet love my way. You sure know how to unleash the girly girl inside me.

HOME SWEET HOME

HOME SWEET HOME

Crystal Phuong- Singapore Fashion Blogger- Street style in Vietnam

The second outfit post (and the last one) from my Vietnam trip. Although I brought many outfits with me to Vietnam, I didn't manage to shoot all of them unfortunately.

Whenever I'm back to Vietnam, my body will completely go to a "Recharge" mode. All I wanted to do was to spend time with my family, especially with my adorable nephew, Miu. No photoshoot, no blogging, no meeting. Nothing. Only after spending more than ten years away from home, I started to appreciate every minute I have with my family. Knowing how much I miss home, my mom and dad always try to come up with a lot of activities whenever I return. We eat lunch and dinner at home everyday, watch the same TV show, laugh with each other. Even when I ask my brother or sister-in-law to help shoot these photos, everyone else would love to come out and watch. My outfit photo shoot turns out to be a family affair in the end.

This year was no different. After taking photos of everyone in the family, I finally had a chance to be in front of the camera. I was the center of attraction until Miu came to join the shoot. He stole the show as always with his cuteness. This post marks Miu's fourth year doing street style photoshoot with me. He has grown up so much from the first, second, and third year and I'm pretty sure he'll outplay his aunty in no time. I can't wait to see it!
