IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS

One of the interesting questions that I've been asked recently is "How do you know which dress or skirt to pick among hundreds of items in a clothing store?". This leads me to think: How do you usually shop for clothes? Do you buy new arrival items or do you select the past seasoned ones? Do you plan on what to buy before going to a store or just go with the flow?

Whenever I go shopping for clothing, I always bring my SCMDP rules which stand for Silhouette, Color, Material, Detail, and Price with me. Sticking to these rules save me time from getting distracted by hundreds of other items on the rack.  Any clothes that have beautiful silhouette like this dress, gorgeous color like this skirt, or outstanding details like the shift dress from FewModa that I'm wearing here will attract me instantly.

Finding a perfect dress is not difficult as long as you know what dress silhouette work best for your body shape or size and what color will compliment your skin tone. I usually love vibrant colored outfits, but if they have to be in black and white, they'd better have exquisite details that come with it. This embroidered shift dress is just one of many items that I'm obsessed with on FewModa.com. Trust me, you will get addicted the moment you start browsing their site. To answer your question above "How do you know which dress or skirt to pick among hundreds of items in a store?". The truth is, I don't know because every time I visit FewModa's website, it's not about "what to pick" but rather "Can I pick them all" that's a problem to me.

Thank you FewModa for spoiling me!

IN NEW YORK WITH FEW MODA

IN NEW YORK WITH FEW MODA

One of the many reasons that makes New York Fashion Week fun and fulfilling is not only because of the beautiful collections on the runway but also the opportunity for me to discover many new fashion brands. Few Moda is one of them.

Being a new kid on the block, compared to some giant E-commerce players like Shopbop, Nordstrom, or Stylebop, Few Moda is already taking the fashion world by storm. With a huge range of clothes and accessories, great customer service, and free worldwide delivery, they are going to make it big. I'm so excited to see what they can achieve.

I met their team, a group of passionate and talented people, when I was in New York for fashion week. You'll never have to worry when you do businesses with people who work with all their hearts. Not to mention the amazing products that they have to offer. Beautiful pieces come with good quality yet affordable prices. Even fashion designer Zac Posen complimented this outfit that I was wearing to interview him. He said, "This is one of the best outfits I've seen the whole week" and asked me where it's from. I thanked him and happily answered: "It's from Few Moda- a fashion brand based in New York."

Thank you so much Few Moda for spoiling me!

SPONSORED VIDEO: CHANGE DESTINY

SPONSORED VIDEO: CHANGE DESTINY

Many people were born with a belief that we can't change what will happen to us and destiny is a fixed road for everybody. I used to have the same thinking when I was in Vietnam. I should get married after graduating from school, have kids, and be a housewife like many other girls. A part of me said that this was the right things to do, but the other part kept telling me to go out of my comfort zone. I was so young; I should explore the world as much as I could.

At the age of twenty, I decided to give up a decent monthly paycheck from two jobs: a secretary by day and a dance instructor by night to pursue further studies in Malaysia. Having only one thousand dollars in my pocket, I started my new life in a new country, with no friends, no relatives. Nothing. It was extremely hard at first, but things got better along the way after I made new friends, had a new job, and became familiar with a new lifestyle. But as soon as I had a chance to settle down, that little voice in my head started questioning me once again about what I wanted to do with my life, who I wanted to become, and where I wanted to live. I couldn't find the answer. I just had to keep looking.
From a secretary and dance instructor in Vietnam to a marketing executive and vice principal of a dance studio in Malaysia, I took another leap of faith to start a brand new chapter in a new country: Singapore.

A fashion blog CrystalPhuong.net was born and when it was nominated in Singapore Best Fashion Blog Finalist, I realized that I had to be more responsible for what I wrote every day. I spent so much time and energy on this blog that I slowly gave up my dancing passion. I used to say "Dancing is my life", but now, guess what? Blogging is my life. I can spend days and nights thinking of creative content, attractive visual, and meaningful stories to share with all of you. It makes my day when people tell me that my stories inspire them to be stronger and more confident in themselves.
Is it a final change? I don't know. But I knew that if I didn't make these changes, I wouldn't be as happy as I am right now. I could blame the destiny and feel regret for not making any move, or I could take a risk and be proud of what I've done.

I always believe that we can't change who we are, but we can always change who we want to be. Destiny is not the matter of chance; it's a matter of choice.
I don't know what changes will I make next, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm shaping my life, my destiny. One step at a time. What about you?

NYFW 2015: DAY 6 IN MICHELLE WORTH

NYFW 2015: DAY 6 IN MICHELLE WORTH

New York Fashion Week 2015- Fashion Blogger- Crystal Phuong

There are some types of clothes that require very minimal or almost no accessorizing and yet can instantly make me feel beautiful inside and out. I'm a sucker for those pieces.

I always believe that finding the right clothes that can portray our personality is so important. They should always bring out who we truly are, make us feel happy and confident in ourselves. I'm not a super adventurous person, but I make an effort to get out of my comfort zone and try new things every now and then. From edgy and preppy styles as seen here and here to tomboy and sweet looks like this one and this one, nothing makes me feel quite like a sophisticated and feminine style does. I feel like I'm myself. This is who I'm and who I want to be. I love the person that I see in the mirror, and believe it or not, the moment I start loving myself, I'll begin a journey with happiness.

This Daydream sheer crop top and the Moonage peplum skirt from Michelle Worth Label are the type of clothes that I'm talking about. I was introduced to Michelle Worth, a Jakarta- based fashion label, at the end of June. As you might know, I'm quite selective on which brand I want to collaborate with nowadays, but when I first looked at their designs, I couldn't say No. Fascinating silhouettes with modern cuttings, delicate lace details, and beautiful embellishments, these dresses are tailored for women with a sense of artistic curiosity and an ability to express it through her clothes.

I didn't know what dress they would pick and send me. But, the moment I opened the package, I knew exactly which occasion I'd like to reserve this dress for: visiting and shooting in Central Park in New York City. A beautiful dress like this needs to be at an iconic location, in a concrete jungle where dreams are made of.

It was so hard to keep a secret for 2 months, but I thought it is really worth the wait. Isn't it?

Thank you so much Michelle Worth for dressing me!

ANTI-AGING WITH VAGHEGGI DELAY INFINITY

ANTI-AGING WITH VAGHEGGI DELAY INFINITY

CrystalPhuong- Singapore Beauty Blog- Anti aging treatment

When I was twenty years old, I never paid any attention to my skin. The only thing I did was remove makeup and wash my face. No one talked to me about moisturizer, toner, or serum, please. I had no time for it.  When I passed the age of 25, I realized many wrinkles around my eyes, dryness around my cheeks, and premature aging skin, that's when I started taking skin care routine seriously. Now, at the age of 30, anti-aging is all I care about.

You've probably seen me doing some DIY skincare routines at home (like this one), but the truth is, nothing beats a facial session at a professional beauty spa. They have all the right tools and the right skills to achieve the results that my homemade beauty remedies can't. That's why I was actually looking forward to trying out the "Vagheggi Delay Infinity Treatment" at Bejeweled Nails and Facial Boutique. They have two outlets, one at Tanjong Pagar that offers only mani-pedi services while the other newly opened boutique at Tai Seng offers a full range of beauty treats from manicure, facial services to eyelash extension.

I dropped by their new branch last week to have my anti-aging facial done. It is a neat and clean shopfront, tastefully decorated with a creative products display, fanciful room divider, and an artistic picture of Audrey Hepburn in the waiting area.

While having my drink served by the staff, on this unique sofa, I was introduced to a bunch of Italian skincare products (which will be applied to my face later) called Vagheggi Delay Infinity

Crystal Phuong- Singapore Beauty Blog- Vagheggi Delay Infinity Products

Vagheggi Delay Infinity products are 100% made in Italy. They are best-known for delaying the skin aging process for women from age the 30s to 40s. They prevent an appearance of first wrinkles and other signs of skin aging, stimulate the collagen and maintain the skin elastin. At the same time, they rebuild and improve skin texture. There are many other benefits you can get from Vagheggi Delay Infinity. If you have been looking for these products in Singapore, you are in luck, because Bejeweled carries them in the store. Feel free to visit and have a look. Maybe, you can try the same treatment they gave me.

The 90-minute facial treatment includes 18 steps in total. It starts with a Welcome and Relax treatment with lenitive essential oil. Then, Eye and Lip makeup removal, followed by Face cleansing with Delay Infinity Cleansing milk. Second cleanse with equilibrium phytogel. Exfoliation with micro peel. Light extraction. Eyebrow shaping. Cold compress using a paper mask and soothing lotion. Scalp and shoulder massage

This was the first half of the session. I'm getting tired just by typing all of these. I don't know how the beautician can manage to finish all of these routines. What did I love most about the first half of the treatment? It's when I looked at all of the stubborn blackheads and whiteheads that were completely removed. I always tried to remove them at home using all different types of masks. None of them worked. This is why it's always good to visit a beauty spa as often as you can.

Moving on to the radio frequency treatment to tighten early signs of loose and sagging skin. It also helps to deeply penetrate Delay Infinity Flawless Face Ampoule into my skin.

When all was done, it's time for masks. Not one, but three different types of masks pampered my face. A Delay Infinity Face Mask, an Equilibrium Lenitive Geomask, and lastly a Soft Mask.

Crystal Phuong- Singapore Beauty Blog- Facial Mask

It was hard not to fall asleep with this cooling mask on my face, in a dim lighted room while a saxophone music played softly in my ears. Life is so beautiful, isn't it?

If only we could wake up from our sleep and look like this everyday!

Crystal Phuong- Singapore Beauty Blog- Beautiful and healthy skin after a facial treatment

I took these photos the next day when I woke up, applied only sunscreen on my face, mascara on my eyelashes and moisturizer on my lips. I have never felt so good about my skin recently. There are a few things that I've learned over the past few year. Skincare is like dieting, it takes a lot of time and effort. There is no shortcut to perfection. But trust me, it'll be all worth it. When you focus on a good skincare, you don't really need a lot of make up.

I just chanced upon this quote from Coco Channel that I love so much: "Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it's up to you to merit the face you have at fifty". It's truly a wake-up call for me. I'm glad it's not too late for to start taking care of my skin. I hope it motivates you too.

COLORS PLAY

COLORS PLAY

Fall has probably started knocking on our doors, but it doesn't mean we can't have fun with Summer colors, can we?. Besides, Singapore doesn't have Fall season anyway, so it's perfect for the color-addicts like me to play dress up. If you follow my Instagram (have you?), you should see my kaleidoscopic life and style through my IG feed.

Last weekend, I wore this color block top and skirt to attend the launch of a TV show "How Do I Look, Asia". This eye-catching outfit is one of the designs in the Lie Spring/ Summer 2015 collection, a breakaway line from Korean powerhouse designer label, Lie SangBong. I had an opportunity to attend Lie SangBong's fashion show at "New York Fashion Week" last year, and I fell head over heels in love with his creativity and talent ever since. When picking this outfit on SocietyA's website, I didn't know my favorite choice would turn out to be one of Lee Chung Chung's designs, the son of Korean fashion designer, who I truly admire. What caught my eyes were not only the complimentary color block combo but also the innovative designs to make a beautiful contemporary look. A minimal New York style meets Parisian avant-garde look has arrived in Singapore. Finally!

On a different note, just in case you don't know, LIE stands for "Love, Identity, and Ego". He makes me start wondering about my name now. Perhaps, CRYSTAL stands for Colorful- Responsible- Young (at heart)- Shine bright (almost like a diamond)- Trendy- Ambitious- Loveable. Yes? I made this up actually, please don't take me seriously. But the truth is, Crystals are indeed colorful and life always has much more fun with colors. Agree?
