{BEAUTY}: J'S NAIL SALON

{BEAUTY}: J'S NAIL SALON

There is a saying that goes like this: "The only time a woman is helpless is when her nail polish is drying. Other than that, watch out". I don't know who said that, but that person is a genius. He or she speaks the mind of millions women out there, and I'm one of them.

I believe having a good look always makes us feel confident, and your nails are the small but important detail to complete your whole package. You'll be surprised to know that many people will start making a conversation with you just by saying: "Your nails are so beautiful". It immediately boosts your confidence to one level up. If you have never done nail art before, you'll probably never understand why we can afford to spend 2 hours every month in a nail salon. But the beauty always has its price. From a true experience of someone who used to hate spending time and money at a beauty salon to a person who spends at least 2 hours in those places now, I'll tell you why it's worth it. Let me take you on a virtual tour of my new nail sponsor- J's Nail.

Located inside an exclusive condominium at Shelford road- the heart of Bukit Timah greenery, J's Nail is not like any other nail salon that you've seen in Far East Plaza (the beauty and nail salons mall). It's beautifully decorated and well-invested from the chairs, tables and interior to even all the nail products. I was quite surprised as I didn't expect to see such a hidden gem like this tucked in the center of a prestigious landed estate of Bukit Timah. It all made sense when Joann (owner of J's Nail) shared with me that they hope to serve more professional working ladies who want to be pampered and to look good. They have everything to show you with the best and luxurious nail service that exceeds your expectations.

A beautiful glitter wall from the entrance leads to this cozy room with many velvet chairs and tables that can serve up to 6 customers at one time.

And another area for a pedicure treatment.

Established in 2007, J's Nail started as a home-based nail art salon and became an active renegade force in the nail art industry. Joann received numerous certifications for her work. She offers all services that are related to manicure and pedicure but her forte has always been hard gel and nail art.

I saw some of her amazing nail art work while I was having my very spontaneous nail treatment done at 9pm on Saturday night. At first, I just wanted to check out her place, and after talking to Joann, she made me want to get my new nail art right away. Everything was ready within 5 minutes. It's quite fascinating to see how an expert does their job without any prior notice and preparation. She asked about my preferred nail design after looking at my nails, told me how she could get it done, step by step, and she went straight to the process.

First, Joann did a cleansing and filing of my nails after putting on the nail extension. Look how even, clean and smooth they are!

Then, she started applying a first coat of gel thinly color by color. I wanted to have Spring- Summer nails so I asked if Joann could give me the pastel colored nails with a pop of yellow on it.

Ten minutes later, this was what I had.

While she was focusing on drawing each and every yellow flower on my nail, slowly and carefully, I started asking about her story, how did she become a nail artist in Hongkong, and now Singapore. Passionately, she shared with me all her life stories, including the fairy tale love story with her husband, sitting next to her, feeding her the Mc. Donald chicken nuggets for dinner so that she could have enough energy to do the nails for me. I felt bad, but admired her at the same time. There are so many beautiful stories like this that still exist, all we need to do is to keep looking.

The fun conversation at (almost) midnight made the whole beauty process become shorter than expected. When I saw Joann put the last few Swarovski crystals (the most expensive crystals) onto my nails, I knew it's time for a photo and to say goodbye.

Thank you so much for your wonderful stories, great services, my beautiful nails and most importantly, for being my sponsor.
Now, I can take a #selfi photo all day long with my gorgeous nails.

If the story and the photos above are not good enough to convince you, I guess you just have to go down to J's Nail and try their service. They are located in a cozy condominium, just beside a swimming pool:

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: SHIMMERING

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: SHIMMERING

Hey guys,
Just a quick hello from me, I hope you had an awesome weekend.

Whenever I feel so uninspired or lazy to dress up to go out on the weekend, I'll instantly think about this shimmering blouse that I bought from GUESS some time ago. It's simple yet so chic and stylish, and I can pair it up with anything. I paired this shiny blouse with denim jeans and high heels when I went for a dinner with my friend few months ago. On a casual Sunday, I wanted to look a bit more casual in shorts and sandals. It didn't take me more than 5 minutes to decide whether or not I should buy this black shimmering shorts from Forever21. It's obviously a Yes answer. Not every day we can find different items from different brands that have an exact match in color and pattern like that, and I'm still amazed whenever I look at these 2 pieces put together. By the way, do you notice the shimmering black-gray jewelry necklace and bracelet that I was wearing? They are my birthday gifts that happen to look like they were made of a piece of my clothes. How cool could it be?

Thank you so much for reading!

{EDITORIAL}: BLACK NIGHT

{EDITORIAL}: BLACK NIGHT

If you have been following my blog long enough, you'll know I mostly post about my daily outfit. Comparing my very first outfit post  from 2012 until now, I see myself improve tremendously, and I couldn't be happier to see how much I've grown in this fashion blogging industry. It has been a long, tough, yet fulfilling journey so far.

After 123 Crystal's Closet daily outfit posts, I suddenly had the urge to do some things differently, some things new to challenge creativity and to get out of my comfort zone. That's when this editorial post came about. I wanted to do some editorial photo shoots awhile ago, but I couldn't find the right "partner" to work with until I met Doug Tindall, an amazingly talented photographer with so much enthusiasm and dedication. We exchanged few ideas, discussed about varieties of photos and went immediately for the shoot right after we found the perfect concept as if we were afraid that we could lose the inspiration at any moment. Working with people who have the same level of passion and commitment is always so fun and satisfying.

It's really hard to keep this secret away from everyone as I wanted to show you these beautiful photos I received from Doug one day after our photo shoot, but I couldn't due to my other blogging assignments. Finally, I can proudly present to you my very first editorial photo shoot: BLACK NIGHT.

I don't know if these photos are anywhere near the industry standards, compared to the photos that you often see in fashion magazines, but I'm very happy to call them my own fashion editorial pieces. Doug and I would be very grateful and happy to hear your constructive comments, suggestions so that we could improve ourselves. Just like the Crystal's Closet blog entries, I'm sure my editorial posts will get better and better. It's just the matter of time.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoy these photos as much as we created them.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: CLASSIC BEAUTE

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: CLASSIC BEAUTE

I find it weird every time I want to buy something specifically, whether it's a dress, a pair of shoes, sunglasses or handbag, I can spend the whole day shopping, dig in every corner of the mall, yet still go home with empty hands and disappointment. When I don't feel like buying anything, I always chance upon a treasured item that leaves me no choice but to bring it home. Buying this cut-out circle dress within 5 minutes while I was window-shopping is an example.

The wasp waist with full circle bottom reminds me of 1950s fashion in which women always looked undeniably sophisticated and feminine. I have to admit I'm a true slave of this style, and I have yet to see when will I stop loving it. As if the classic silhouette dress in beige color wasn't attractive enough for me to buy, the shop owner turned the dress around to show me the cut-out back with a big bow on it. I was sold, completely.

Not every day I can find a dress that has the consummate combination of modern and classic, with the most simple details, in the most basic color, yet still looks breathtaking like that. I thought, what would be better to pair this iconic dress with my favorite Dior sunglasses, a pair of black gloves, black heels and statement necklace to bring me back to 1950s. I wish I could go back in time to witness how fashion designer Christian Dior first dominated fashion scenes in those years.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: LADY BOSS

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: LADY BOSS

If there is any wardrobe staple that instantly makes me feel confident the moment I put it on, it has to be this blazer. I own many different blazers in different styles, colors and shapes, but none is as unique as this blazer that you are seeing here.

Reminiscent of Balmain blazer, the structured shoulders design immediately caught my attention when I first saw it online. At the same time, I also adore the peplum silhouette that gives a perfect curve to a wearer. Having a feminine touch in this masculine structure, this blazer gives me the feeling of a strong woman who is ready to conquer the world. She is powerful, important and determined. She is a lady boss. She works hard; she plays even harder. With the blazer on, she looks professional at work. With the blazer off, she seems to be ready for a party anytime.

It amazes me how many personalities we can have from just one outfit. I must thank to Leo.C Photography for helping me to capture these beautiful images and for bringing this woman in my own imagination come to life.

I'm trying to be like her.
