{TRAVEL}: KRABI SIGHT AND SOUND

{TRAVEL}: KRABI SIGHT AND SOUND

There is always something for everyone in Krabi, whether you are an active or laid-back person. I just have to agree completely with whoever said that.

After spending half of my day walking around Ao Nang, taking a closer look at every detail (I talked about this in the first blog post "Krabi Kalling"), I realised that the more things I explored, the more I would fall in love with this place. Having the right mindset made it easier for us to decide what we wanted to do for the rest of the day. We bumped into a small tour agency in Ao Nang and quickly booked our itinerary after listening the salesman's recommendation. Thirty minutes later, a private car was arranged, and ready to bring us to all the places that we wanted to go to.

The famous Krabi Tiger Cave- Wat Tham Sua, located just about three km away from Krabi town, was our first stop. Many people wanted to visit this place, but then gave up after knowing that 1,237 steps up to the mountain awaited them ahead. I and Ken both love challenges and exercise, so we thought: "What would be a better way to work out during our holiday?". Besides, not every day I could get rewarded with beautiful scenery like this while exercising.

200 steps were easy, 600 steps got more challenging, 800 steps were a live-or-die kind of situation. The higher we climbed, the steeper it got. I needed a voice inside my head to constantly encourage me "C'mon! No pain, no gain. You are almost there".

At the 1000th step, I felt like I could walk no more, but the curious thought about "What's there at the top?" kept pushing me forward. If I gave up half way, I would have never had a chance to enjoy this spectacular view. All the sweat, pain and thirst were compensated with this stunning panoramic view of the amazing Andaman Sea and the dramatic limestone cliff formations during the sunset. This was the most satisfying thing I did on this trip.

Leaving the Tiger Cave, our driver took us to Krabi Night Market as I wanted to buy some souvenirs for friends and family. It turned out to be a food night market instead with hundreds of food stalls along the roadside, selling all authentic local dishes such as barbecued seafood, meat, Thai mango sticky rice, fruits and many more. The market looks chaotic from the outside, but once you dive into that frantic, noisy and smoky crowd, it's actually quite fun and satisfying.

It was raining shortly after we visited the night market. Instead of eating out, we headed back to our hotel and pampered ourselves with some wine, nice Italian food, in the most romantic place that we've never thought we would be.

Having to get up at 6am the next day, on a holiday trip was a challenge for me, but it was totally worth it because for the first time in my life, I did Kayaking. I was excited like a kid, and of course nervous too because I didn't know how hard it could it.
Surprisingly, It wasn't difficult as what I imagined.  Kayaking like this?

I could do it every day :D

Even though, it was ridiculously hot and humid, but this view made it all worth it. Sitting on a craft, floating along the river that was calm and quiet like a painting, while looking at the canyons and caves made me feel like life is too short to be wasted with so much stress and worry.

There were many other things I wanted to do, but time didn't permit, I had to say good bye to Krabi after 3 wonderful days. The last thing I wanted to do before leaving this paradise was to spend my time by the beach, soaking up the sun, listening to the sound of the ocean and feeling so appreciated with every moment I had. Knowing that I wouldn't be able to bring all these wonders home, I tried to capture them as much as I could, and kept them safely in the "Happiness" folder in my mind and my heart.

If you asked me again, whether I could re-visit Krabi, I knew the answer would always be:  "Absolutely yes".
In fact, I already feel like going back there again, right now.
Thank you so much for reading, and thank you so much for following me on this travel diary.
Till next time.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: CROP TOP IN KRABI

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: CROP TOP IN KRABI

The second day in Krabi was quickly filled up with a lot of walking, shopping, and sightseeing once we had our footsteps in Ao Nang Street. The weather was so kind to us when we were there. With golden sunshine, blue sky, crystal clear water and the striking mountain range, Ao Nang gave me the perfect scenery as a backdrop for my take-home photos that needed no filter to enhance its vibrancy and beauty.

I didn't prepare myself for a full day of walking under the sun, but somehow I survived like a hero. Thanks to this pair of Isabel Marant gladiator sandals for the incredibly soft leather that saved my feet, and the adorable ASOS floral crop top that made me look so chic even when I was "melting" under the 31°C- 88°F heat.

Going on a beach vacation like this to me means having the opportunity to be free, be daring, and be adventurous in my fashion style. Bikini. Check. Ripped denim shorts. Check. Sunglasses. Check. Crop Top. Check. Sun Tanning. Check. As you can tell, I was so beach-ready in my crop top and denim outfit that showed a lot of skin. It's the kind of outfit that you don't see me wearing walking around Singapore, but I guess it's acceptable in places like this. I just want to have fun, that's all.

Thank you so much for reading!

{TRAVEL}: KRABI KALLING

{TRAVEL}: KRABI KALLING

I first met Krabi 4 years ago on a very short trip that was sponsored by FHM Magazine. It was an off-peak season when we visited, everything was "sleeping" except for some souvenir shops still open with hope to sell to some rare tourists like us. Raining all day long made Krabi even gloomier and quieter than usual. There wasn't any entertainment to excite us, so we decided to shorten our stay in Krabi from 3 days 2 nights to 2 days 1 night, and spent a day in Phuket instead. Krabi didn't leave me with much impression, and I thought I would never come back again.

Nevertheless.

I agreed to visit Krabi again after listening to my boyfriend's suggestion, and I thought: "Perhaps, Krabi has changed. It's worth to check it out after 4 years." Two days before the departure, we booked the flight, had our hotel sorted and packed our luggage for a short getaway vacation. Knowing what Krabi looked like, I tried to keep my expectations as low as possible, but the thought of going for a first trip with my boyfriend undeniably made me so excited.

After approximately 2 hour flight, 20 minute car drive and a 15 minute boat ride, we arrived at our home for the weekend- Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas with its own private bay. What greeted us was much better than I expected: a floating entrance to the hotel with many rooms carved into the lush National Park of Pai Plong. It created an opulent vista that looked exactly like some type of paradise in my dream. In that dream, I had my private bathtub, and private beach with blue sky and turquoise water. There, I had it all.

First day, we had a Thai buffet dinner and hung around our hotel as it was quite late when we checked in. On the second day, we took a boat ride to visit Ao Nang and went for shopping. It surprised me that Ao Nang streets haven't changed a bit compared to 4 years ago. Still the same colorful souvenir shops, beach-themed restaurants lined up nicely along the beachfront road. Even on the weekend of the holiday period, Ao Nang was still so relaxed, calm and peaceful. People looked happy here as if the word "Stress" didn't exist in this small town. Obviously, how could we feel stress when we look at the perfect beach, listening to the soothing sound of waves coming from the ocean every day like that?

Then, I realized Krabi hasn't changed a bit, I was the one that has changed. Four years ago, when I had my footsteps in this little beach town, I was looking for something fun to entertain me like big shopping malls or nightclubs with a lot of people. I left Krabi for Phuket because I couldn't find any excitement there. Today, the same old town where I was standing, I found myself entertained just by looking at the small little details in every corner of this street. From the whimsical curtain, the vibrantly embroidered handbag, to the jungle themed restaurant, the big-sized female dancer statues, and the kaleidoscopic paintings, everything was so beautiful in its own way. I just had to take a closer look to appreciate it more.

That's when I knew I missed a lot of things in my first trip here, and I decided to do some activities that I didn't do before, on my two days in Krabi.

Guess what the activities were? Find out in the next blog post. ;)
Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoy part 1 of my Krabi adventure.
