HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: FOR HER

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: FOR HER

The most beautiful time of the year is coming close, knocking on our doors (exactly one month away). It's also my second most favorite month in a year (after my birthday, of course). Christmas is what I'm talking about. While I get excited looking at the sparkling lights on the streets, I feel nervous thinking "What to buy" for my loved one's too. Shopping for Christmas can be quite stressful and overwhelming, I know. If you are not good at buying gifts for people, I'd recommend you to start planning as early as possible.

Even with that, some of you might still face challenges when it comes to finding the right gifts for people that you care about. How do you know what to buy for your brother, your sister, your niece, nephew, mom, dad, girlfriend, boyfriend, and the list goes on. Well, guess what? You've just come to the right place.

For the first time on CrystalPhuong.net, I'm extremely happy to share with you my Holiday Gift Guide, the best Christmas gift ideas for her, him, boys, girls, and many more. So stay tuned for more gift guide blog posts coming your way.

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: FABULOUS 30

{CRYSTAL'S CLOSET}: FABULOUS 30

Two weeks ago, I celebrated my birthday with a few groups of people that I love. It was the 30th birthday, just in case you are wondering. Whoever searched on Google "Crystal Phuong age" a couple of days ago, you have your answer *smile*. (I check my Google Analytic everyday, and I'm amazed at what people are searching on the internet, every time).

Anyway, I've officially joined the Club 30!

I used to be scared of thinking about number 30, realizing that I've gone through one third of a human's life, and knowing I haven't achieved as much as I wanted to. Women at the age of 30 are deemed old, by default, in my country, and I grew up with that thinking in my head for 20 good years. I should have at least 2 kids by the time I was 30, like many other women in Vietnam. Living abroad for a long time gives me the opportunity to look at things from very different perspectives.

I think and strongly believe that Women at the age of 30 are not old. In fact, I've never felt so young, so energetic, so excited about everything. I've gone through enough pains to realize the value of happiness. Every moment that I'm upset, I'll lose a second of happiness. I've learned many lessons from my  mistakes and gained many experiences from my failures. I do things with purpose, plan the future accordingly, and improve myself every single day. When I was 20, my mood often changed like the Fall weather: chilling in the morning, hot in the afternoon, and cold in the evening. I struggled to find out about who I am, and who I want to be. Right now, at 30 years old, I have all the answers I need (pretty much). I don't feel upset for no reason, and be happy all of sudden. Everything happens for a reason.

I love with all my heart, but never forget to bring my brain with me when it comes to relationships. I'm responsible for myself and for others. All of that makes me appreciate the number 30 even more. It gives me the strength, the knowledge, and the experience to conquer the world.

On another note, I'd like to dedicate this blog post to my friends, my sisters, and you, who always think that you are old at the age of 30. You are not. I received this sweet little message from a birthday card: "Remember, it's not how old you are, but how young you feel. Age is just a number". Now, I'm sharing it with you!

Happy fabulous 30!

Some photos from my birthday celebrations 2 weeks ago. I had not only one, but 4 celebrations in total. First celebration was with my best team.

Sandwiched in between Jazz and Charlene.

Arthur & Sueyi.

With Jacqueline

and Hong- the best manager I've ever had. Can't imagine how my life would be without him. I love this guy so much, and he is not even my boyfriend. Strange!

With Kuan Yin

Delicious Japanese lunch with my good friend @donrichmond, who never fails to bring me to nice places to eat. But then, he always makes me laugh so hard that I can't eat anything. #notcomplaining

Third celebration with my 3 angels, who used to be in CrystalPhuong's team. From left to right: Hong, Alicia, Faith and Sherlene.

Fourth celebration was the most romantic and mysterious dinner, I've ever had.  Everything was kept as a secret until the last minute, including the birthday gift. I wasn't worried as I knew Mr. Right would never disappoint me. I was right. It was the lovely candle light dinner (just how I like it) with delicious food, nice ambience, and perfect company. How about the birthday gift? It's the most thoughtful gift that I've ever received. A 3D version of myself in Crystal frame that glows in the dark. It's insanely beautiful, truly one of a kind and totally Crystal.

Thank you so much everyone for the birthday messages, your love and support! You have no idea how much they mean to me.
Have you passed your 30th birthday yet? How did or do you feel about turning30?

{TRAVEL}: NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

{TRAVEL}: NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

You probably wonder why it takes me so long to publish the second part of my #NewYork #travel trip? To be honest, after the first blog post, I kind of feel reluctant to finish up this travel diary. Saying Goodbye to New York was so hard. It took me weeks to get back to the reality that I was no longer in New York. I thought I could pretend that I still lived there, even if I lived virtually on this blog. And thus, I didn't want to it to be over.  But, looking at so many beautiful photos makes me feel guilty for not sharing them with you. There is a word called "selfish" that haunted me, you know?

So I guess, this is it! Every moment that I had with New York, during the last 3 days was here. These photos drive me crazy by looking at them. I miss New York so much. It hurts!

I've grown so much after this trip, you won't even believe it. I've learned to travel all by myself for the first time, to get out of my comfort zone, to network with strangers, and to find my own direction so I wouldn't get lost. These are the things I hate doing, or have never taken an effort to do before. Traveling alone means I have all the time by myself, doing whatever I want to do, including wandering the streets aimlessly and expecting the unexpected.

I didn't plan to visit Rockefeller Center on day 3 in New York, but somehow the street led me to that place. It was supposed to be in day 4 itinerary.

Likewise, I planned to visit Times Square on the last night in New York, but since Times Square was so near Rockefeller Center, I just went on spending the night walking around.
Full of energy and full of excitement, Times Square is no space for loneliness and boredom. I walked block after block, street after street, and totally forgot about my sore feet. The further I walked, the more I got attracted to this vibrant city.

From the most luxurious place in Manhattan (Shopping in the 5th Avenue) to the dirtiest underground, every corner of Manhattan has a story that fascinates any first time visitor.

My 8 day trip to New York was too short, as each day was packed with fashion shows and parties, but whenever I had time, I always tried to get away from the fashion week madness to explore the city.

I could be at the Brooklyn Bridge in the morning,

and back to Lincoln Center in the afternoon for a fashion show.

Or, I would walk for 30 minutes to the Empire State Building in the afternoon, to catch the sunset, and to enjoy only a 10 minute view of New York.

Then quickly I rushed back to the hotel for an outfit change to get ready for the Michael Costello show at night. My feet were tortured by the sky high stilettos, my stomach cried in hunger, and my body was dead exhausted. It was still worth it.

On the last day in New York, I became free. No more fashion shows, parties, and meet-ups, I had the whole day to myself before heading back to the airport. I knew exactly what I wanted to do on my last day in this beautiful city: go for a helicopter ride and visit the Statue of LibertyYou haven't been to New York if you haven't been on a helicopter ride. It was quite an expensive ride ($150/ 15minutes), but I thought the memory and experience was worth much more than $150.

From the helicopter view

to the boat view

to the street level, everywhere I looked, I saw beauty, whether through my real eyes or my camera lens. New York was fascinating in every view and angle.

After visiting the Statue of Liberty, I didn't know where else I should go, so I just kept walking on the street while letting my mind wander with many thoughts. Then, I found myself at this place: 9-11 Memorial Hall. I thought I wouldn't have the opportunity to visit the Memorial Hall this trip, but it looked like "we" found each other in the end.  I was overwhelmed, emotional, and proud at the same time.

Picking up this little reminder along a Manhattan street just right before I left for the airport. Everyone of us needs a little HOPE in our life. Thank you, New York, for this reminder! I do hope to see you again, very soon!

A pastel cloud as a farewell,

and a magical view of Doha on my return to Singapore.

7 hours later, I was home.
The first thing I did when I got home: cross an item off the bucket list with a big and satisfying smile. New York, New York!
